How do you ask a guy to a dance on late notice?

There's this guy I really like, and we have a sadie hawkins dance coming up in 6 days, we've been really good friends for a long time, and I don't want to ruin our friendship... but it's probably too late anyway. I know he doesn't have a date to the dance, but is it too late to ask him? and if not, how can i ask him?
